Maasai Shuka

Distinctive wrapper/blanket worn by Maasai men and women to keep warm.

The shuka is a powerful symbol of Maasai identity. The colour red represents bravery, unity and the blood of the Maasai.

Traditional check pattern. Machine woven. Synthetic, possibly viscose. Roughly hemmed. Origin unknown.

Though this cloth is about 20 years old, it is in excellent condtion.
