West African Tie-dye

Most of our hand-dyed tie-dye comes from The Gambia. We try to identify each fabric with the maker's name as many of our customers come back looking for fabrics by specific dyers.

Some fabrics are created using synthetic dyes and others use natural dyes. All are 100% cotton. Some are a subtly woven damask; others are plain-weave cotton, as indicated.

Plain weave: 100% cotton. 80 cm / 32 in wide, approximately. Fat Quarters are 50 x 40 cm / 20 x 16 in. Dressmaking/craft weight: 90 grams per metre, approximately.

Damask fabrics: 100% cotton, damask weave. 110 cm / 43 in wide, approximately. Fat Quarters are 50 x 56 cm / 20 x 22 in. Dressmaking/craft weight: 150 grams per metre, approximately.
