Kola Nut Tree Cotton Strip Cloth

Savannah
Code: STR107

Hand-dyed with natural kola nut by Musa Jaiteh in Sukuta, The Gambia.

Tree cotton grows on the 'silk cotton' tree, part of the kapok family. Because of its short staple, it is difficult to spin into a yarn. For this reason, this cloth is a blend of tree cotton weft with cotton warp. The strips - handwoven up the River Gambia in Basse - are closely woven and very soft.

Strip width: 14 cm / 5.5 inches, approximately.

Average weight per metre: 50 g
