Tuareg Tcherot Necklace

Tuareg amulet or pendant with braided leather thong, probably from Niger or Mali.

In Tamashek, the language of the Tuareg, tcherot means 'paper' or 'message'. These pendants often contain a paper bearing a verse from the Qur'an. Tamashek symbols on the back indicate the name of the maker.

Hand-engraved silver.
